The remaining successors are entrusted with the instructions for taking the oath of allegiance and receiving spiritual guidance after the passing of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen. It was during these impressionable years that his heart became a vessel brimming with the boundless ocean of Divine love. He had a strong desire to be counted among the sincere seekers of the Divine. His soul harboured an unyielding longing to be counted among the earnest seekers of Divine Truth. Driven by this fervent desire, he persistently implored Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen to take an oath of allegiance from him. Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen, in response, promised to fulfil this request at a designated time.

Oath of Allegiance

Murtaza Najib’s long-awaited moment of pledging allegiance on hands of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen transpired on 22nd October 2016 (21st Muharram 1437 AH). This momentous event took place shortly after the sunset prayer during the Urs celebration at the hallowed shrine of Sultan Mohammad Abdullah Shah. After pledging allegiance, Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen granted him his turban.

Sahibzada Sultan Mohammad Murtaza Najib sees his father, Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen, as his spiritual guide. He holds immense respect and affection for him. This is why even before pledging allegiance he took keen interest in various departments of Tehreek Dawat-e-Faqr. He performed tasks like overseeing department of langar and its distribution, photography and video editing department of Sultan-ul-Faqr digital productions and department of research and development. He executed all duties assigned to him with unwavering dedication and devotion.

Sultan-ul-Faqr VI Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali, the spiritual guide of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen, frequently visited their home during his lifetime. He was very affectionate towards Sahibzada Sultan Mohammad Murtaza Najib. Often, he remarked that with God’s grace willing, he would live up to the noble name bestowed to him. Indeed, it happened.

On the 21st of November 2018 (12th Rabi al-awwal 1440 AH), during the auspicious commemoration of the annual Mawlid an-Nabi, Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen conferred upon Sahibzada Sultan Mohammad Murtaza Najib the mantle of succession. He appointed him as the Vice Patron in Chief of the Tehreek Dawat-e-Faqr. Additionally, he entrusted him with the family headship and guardianship of the shrine of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen following his own earthly departure. Elaborated details regarding this momentous event can be found in Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman’s book, Mujtaba Akhir Zamani (English: The Spiritual Guides of Sarwari Qadri), Second Edition, March 2022, on page 247, under the title ‘Urs 2017.’

Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman bestowed upon him the honorific title of ‘Sultan’ and authorized him to guide and the aspirants in the way of Allah and administer oath of allegiance. Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen articulated this by stating:

“One who has taken the oath of allegiance from his hands has indeed taken the oath from my hands.”

Sultan Mohammad Abdullah Iqbal

Sultan Mohammad Abdullah Iqbal was born on 24th September 1988 (12th Safar 1409 AH) in Chak 86 South, Sargodha, Pakistan. He received his primary education from a private school in Sargodha and passed his intermediate examination from Cadet College Skardu. In 2009, he joined the Pakistan Army as a commissioned officer.

Desire to Seek a Spiritual Guide

Even in the eighth grade, he realized that reaching Allah without a perfect spiritual guide was impossible. This conviction ignited a deep longing within him to find such a spiritual guide who could lead him to Allah. His quest spanned from 2006 to 2008, marked by unwavering prayers beseeching Allah to lead him to such a guide.

Saw Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen in a Dream

In 2008, a pivotal moment occurred when Sultan Mohammad Abdullah Iqbal experienced a life-altering dream. In this dream, Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen lovingly placed his hand upon his head and declared, “I am your spiritual guide.” Upon awakening, he embarked on a relentless search for this unknown spiritual guide, which persisted until 2014. During this period, he encountered numerous individuals. Yet his heart remained restless, for he had not yet found the true guide he sought.

It was in February 2014 that a glimmer of hope emerged. Word reached him that there existed a perfect spiritual guide in Lahore. A revered figure to whom people from distant places flocked to fulfill their spiritual aspirations. The invocation of Allah and His Prophet spontaneously arose in the hearts of those present in his company. Also, he bestowed Divine vision upon his disciples.

Up until that moment, Sultan Mohammad Abdullah Iqbal had, to some extent, grown disillusioned, fearing that his quest to find this saintly figure might remain unfulfilled. Nevertheless, he resolved to make one final effort, vowing that if he did not encounter this unknown spiritual guide this time, he would not seek elsewhere.

Until that point, he had grown somewhat pessimistic. He felt that meeting a perfect spiritual guide might not be destined for him. However, he thought of making one last effort. Thus, decided that if he didn’t find the unknown saintly person this time, he would not go anywhere else.

First Meeting with Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen

On 9th February 2014, he visited Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen and had the honour to meet him. He described this meeting in the following words:

“I went to the Khanqah Sarwari Qadri on Sunday, 9th February 2014. I came with the intention that if my heart finds peace, I will stay otherwise, I will leave immediately. Instantly someone announced through the premises and urged everyone to line up as the spiritual guide was coming. I stood at the end of the line and my heart was brimming with anticipation, yearning for the culmination of my quest. Finally, the moment arrived. Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen made entrance through the gate of the Khanqah.

As soon as my eyes fell on his blessed face, I immediately recognized that he was the same perfect spiritual guide I had seen in my dream. I was overjoyed to see his sacred face. It seemed as if his sacred countenance glowed was Divine light and he appeared so beautiful that I had never seen anyone as handsome as him. His personality was so illuminating that it brought tranquility to my heart instantly. It felt like I was drawing closer to my ultimate destination.”

Oath of Allegiance

Mohammad Abdullah Iqbal recollects the moment of pledging allegiance to Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen in the following words:

I unconsciously sat in an uncomfortable posture in front of him so I could pledge allegiance. One of his attendees told me to sit comfortably as the process might take some time and I may get tired. I silently replied to the attendee in my heart not to disturb me as I won’ t be tired. Astonishingly, Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen vocalized my very thoughts to the attendee, saying, “Don’t disturb him; he will not get tired.” Upon hearing these words, I was surprised that he knew my inward state. This further assured me that I had made the right decision. After the oath of allegiance, when Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen breathed on my face, it felt like he filled my heart with peace.

That day, for the first time in my life, I experienced the true meaning of peace. After the oath of allegiance, I found no love comparable to the love for Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen. I have never met anyone like him. Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen also honoured me by accepting me as his son-in-law.”

To quell this inner restlessness, he immersed himself in the worship of Allah, fervently offering five daily congregational prayers, Tahajjud prayers and making voluntary offerings after dawn prayer, among other acts of devotion. In 2010, he gained admission to Shaikh Zayed Medical College in Rahim Yar Khan, where he pursued his MBBS degree. During this period, he continued his quest for a perfect spiritual guide. Despite meeting several spiritual figures with his mother, he couldn’t find a guide who truly resonated with the qualities elucidated in the books of Sultan Bahoo.

Oath of Allegiance

One day, Dr. Hussain Mehboob’s mother stumbled upon the monthly magazine Sultan-ul-Faqr Lahore at a bookstore, which led her to discover Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen. Intrigued, she went to the sacred company of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen and witnessed all the qualities of a perfect spiritual guide in him, as elucidated by Sultan Bahoo in his books. Convinced of his spiritual authenticity, she pledged allegiance to him. Upon returning home, she shared her experience with Dr. Hasnain Mehboob, who, at the time, was in his second year of studying MBBS at Shaikh Zayd Medical College in Rahim Yar Khan.

This book uncovered the reality of the Universal Divine Man (al-Insan al-Kamil) to him. He realized that Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen was indeed the Universal Divine Man of this era. He described his meeting in the following words:

“When I met Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen, my heart and mind were set in motion, as if in a state of upheaval. There was a sense of inner turmoil. It was as if I was experiencing a state of restlessness. The blessed saying of the Holy Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) came to my mind: ‘Meet those who remind you of Allah, and through their remembrance, Allah’s name comes to your heart.’ After a brief conversation, I requested to pledge allegiance to Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen.”

Oath of Allegiance

Sultan Mohammad Nasir Hameed recalls this momentous event that reshaped the course of his life in the following words:

It was the evening of the 28th of August 2005, right after the sunset prayer, when I pledged my allegiance at the sacred hands of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen. Following this solemn act, my spiritual guide graciously imparted to me the sacred invocation (dhikr) of ‘Hoo.’ After that I set off for home.

I had not even reached home when the profound impact and kindness of my spiritual guide’s gaze started to take effect. My heart became connected to the remembrance of Allah and invocation of ’Hoo’ naturally emanated from me with an intensity that even those around me could hear. When I reached home, my family was bewildered and alarmed by the unusual sound resonating from me. My brothers even speculated that someone had cast a spell on me. Little did they know that this was a blessing from my spiritual guide. In that moment, I called my beloved spiritual guide and shared my experience with him. In his soothing words, he reassured me, saying, ‘Dear Nasir! There’s nothing wrong. Allah is very kind to you.'”

The spiritual attention and guidance of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen completely transformed the inner state of Sultan Mohammad Nasir Hameed. His love for the world dissipated, and he found his life’s purpose. Pledged Allegiance to a Renowned Spiritual Guide before Meeting Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen

Despite his educational pursuits, he grappled with a persistent inner restlessness that made it increasingly challenging to concentrate on his studies. His struggles eventually led him to make a significant life choice. He left college, pledged allegiance to a renowned spiritual guide and engaged in rigorous spiritual exercises to find inner solace. Yet, he did not find the tranquility he sought.

That renowned spiritual guide was very happy to see the dedication of Mohammad Nasir Majid, thus, he married his younger daughter to him. She was a pious and devout woman. Allah had bestowed her in such a way that all her supplications in His court were heard.

Regrettably, Sultan Mohammad Nasir Majid soon discovered that his father-in-law was exploiting his daughter’s Divine blessing for fraudulent purposes. The spiritual guide manipulated her to deceive people and amass substantial sums of money in the name of Allah. This unethical conduct extended to Sultan Mohammad Nasir Majid himself, who was deceived into parting with a significant sum, amounting to three and a half lakhs rupees, under the guise of a business venture.

After some time, Mohammad Nasir Majid became intimately acquainted with the actions of his father-in-law. He began to observe inconsistencies in the behaviour and teachings of his spiritual guide. These disparities prompted him to request the return of the money he had previously donated. Unfortunately, his father-in-law refused to return the money, which further deepened his disillusionment with him as a spiritual guide.

Oath of Allegiance to Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen

Disheartened by this experience, he decided to leave everything behind and began searching for a genuine spiritual guide. During this quest, he stumbled upon the monthly Sultan-ul-Faqr magazine. When he read it, he felt as though Allah’s grace descending upon him and guiding him to the Truth. He followed the address provided in the magazine and eventually reached the sacred company of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen. There he received the sacred invocation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. With great enthusiasm and love, he started the invocation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat, harbouring the intention that al-Ghawth al-Azam himself would pledge allegiance from him. In addition to this dedicated practice, he made regular visits to Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen.

One night, he had a dream in which he beheld Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen alongside the Holy Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) visiting his home. An extraordinary occurrence unfolded, he saw Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen walk towards the Prophet and then seamlessly dissipate into the chest of the Holy Prophet. This dream clarified to him that Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen was indeed the representative of the Prophet Mohammad.

On a blessed Friday, 17th March 2014 (23rd Dhul al-Hijjah 1435 AH), he visited Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen and requested to pledge allegiance. He accepted the request and on the very first day of allegiance blessed him with the invocation of ‘Hoo’. This moment changed his life forever. He had never felt such solace and tranquility in his life, thus he dedicated himself fully to Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen. Inspired by his spiritual journey, the wife of Sultan Mohammad Nasir Majeed also left her father and fake spiritual guide and pledged allegiance to Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen.

While he was deeply engrossed in worldly affairs, he suddenly experienced a profound spiritual awakening. In October 2007, he took allegiance at the hands of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen. He recognized the truth and wholeheartedly devoted himself in the path of his spiritual guide to attain Divine vision and gnosis.

I cannot adequately express the effects it had on me. That initial encounter made me feel like I was beholding the Universal Divine Man. This couplet by Rumi perfectly encapsulates my feelings:

بشکل ِ شیخ دیدم مصطفیٰ

را ندیدم مصطفیٰ را بل خدا را

Meaning: In the form of Shaikh, I saw the Prophet Mohammad. But I did not see the Prophet, rather, I saw only Allah.”

I firmly believed that, with Allah’s grace and spiritual benevolence of my spiritual guide I would successfully accomplish this grand task. When I began the translation, it felt as if some hidden power was guiding the words into my mind. This, indeed, is the immense blessing of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen, who has bestowed upon this humble servant the privilege of fulfilling this significant task.”
