Prophet Mohammad; The Most Sublime and the Highest
Celebration of the Prophet’s Birthday
Praise and salutation upon the Holy Prophet (pbuh), the Seal of prophets, Master of both worlds, Allah’s Beloved and Mercy for the whole universe. His birth was celebrated in the heavens and on the earth. The skies were decorated and everything was lit up. The umma got blessed with religion upon his arrival. The age of darkness was left behind and the world became a better place.
The grandeur of Holy Prophet can be gauged from how Allah celebrated his birth, none of the other prophets received the same glorification. The stars came down to glow up the world, so much so Aminah bint Wahb (RA) could see the castles in Syria. All doors of the skies and heavens were opened and the universe became fragrant. Seventy houris of the heaven were sent down to Aminah’s house to welcome her baby boy. Thousands of angels and birds from heavens descended to earth for his grand welcome. On the day of his birth, even the birds of Makkah were given the ability to speak. For a whole year, the women in Arab were blessed with sons. The trees were filled with fruit and the fields all fertile, famine turned into greenery and freshness. (Haqeeqat e Eid Milad un Nabi)
Eminence of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh)
Prophet Mohammad is the greatest among all prophets. He led all prophets in prayer on the night of Miraj. Allah sent the messengers to deliver the message of His Tawhid and the Prophethood of Mohammad. He took oath from all prophets that they will make their people believe in Mohammad:
And, (O Beloved, recall) when Allah took a firm covenant from the Prophets: ‘When I give you the Book and Wisdom, and then there comes to you the Messenger (who is exalted in glory above all and) who shall validate the Books you will have with you, you shall then, most certainly, believe in him and most surely help him.’ Allah said: ‘Do you affirm, and on these (terms) hold fast to My heavy covenant?’ All submitted: ‘We affirm.’ Allah said: ‘Bear witness then, and I am also with you amongst the witnesses.’
(Al-Imran, 3 : 81)
The Prophet says:
And I am the most noble among the first ones and the last ones, and I am not boasting.
(Tirmidhi 3616)
Prophet Mohammad is the most Exalted
Ibn Abbas (RA) narrated that some of the companions (RA) were sitting together, discussing the ranks and virtues of various Prophets. One of them said, “Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was Khalilullah (the friend of Allah).” Another mentioned Prophet Musa (AS) and said, “He was Kaleemullah (the one who spoke with Allah).” A third person spoke about Prophet Isa (AS) and said, “He was Ruhullah (the spirit of Allah).” Someone else referred to Prophet Adam (AS) as Safiullah (the chosen one of Allah). At that moment, the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) arrived and said, “I heard what you said, and it is all true. Now listen about me: ‘I am the beloved of Allah, and I do not boast about it.’
(Mishkat al-Masabih, 5762)
I am the leader of the messengers, and this is no boast.
(Mishkat al Masabih 5764)
Each prophet was sent to a specific region or nation but the Holy Prophet is for the whole world forever. Allah says:
And We exalted for you your remembrance (by annexing it to Ours everywhere in the world and in the Hereafter).
(ash-Sharh, 94 : 4)
The Prophet is Allah’s Perfect Evidence. All of Allah’s prophets had their miracles but our Prophet is himself a charisma.
Prophet Adam
The angels bowed down to Adam once. Whereas, they will keep sending prayers upon Prophet Mohammad till the end of the world. In fact, Adam himself will be present on the doomsday, below the flag of our Prophet.
“I am the chief of the children of Adam on the Day of Judgement and I am not boasting, and in my hand is the banner of praise and I am not boasting, and there has been no Prophet since Adam or other than him, except that he is under my banner.”
(Tirmidhi 3148)
Human race began from Adam. And the Holy Prophet was there even when Adam was being created. The Prophet says:Human race began from Adam. And the Holy Prophet was there even when Adam was being created. The Prophet says:
I was still a Prophet when Adam was somewhere between mud and water.
(Mustadrak 4209)
The Holy Prophet said in various Hadiths:
Allah created my Noor (light) first and foremost.
I am from Allah’s Noor, the entire creation is from mine.
Allah Created my Soul in the very beginning.
Solomon and the Pride of Solomon
Allah granted Solomon the army of jinn, man, and birds. For Prophet Mohammad, He sent an army of angels. Solomon was given the ability to speak to birds, whereas every creature bowed down before Prophet Mohammad. Ali bin Abi Talib said, “I was with the Prophet in Makkah. Even the trees and mountains that came in front of the Prophet, said, “Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah.”
Even stones and pebbles said the Shahadah seeing him.
Prophet Moses
Moses divided the Euphrates with his stick into two, while Prophet Mohammad just signalled the moon and it broke into two pieces. The place where Moses steps, Divine Light appears, the place where Abraham steps, becomes a place of prostration and the place where our Beloved Prophet steps, becomes the Highest Heaven.
Musa prayed: ‘O my Lord, expand my breast for me.
(Taha, 20 : 25)
And appoint for me a minister from my family.
That is Harun (Aaron), my brother.
(Taha, 20 : 29-30)
Have We not broadened your breast for you (for the light of knowledge, wisdom and spiritual gnosis)
(ash-Sharh, 94 : 1)
For Prophet Mohammad Allah said:
And We have taken off the load (of grief of the Umma from you,
(ash-Sharh, 94 : 2)
Once Moses asked Allah, “O Allah! I am Your Kaleem (Speaker), Mohammad is Your Habib (Beloved). What is the difference between the two?” Allah said, Kaleem is he who comes to the Mount of Toor, seeking Me. Whereas Habib is he whom Allah Himself seeks. Kaleem wants my contentment, Habib is whose contentment I Want.” (Shan e Mustafa Bazuban e Mustafa)
Moses longed for Allah’s Acknowledgment. Quran says:
Musa submitted: ‘They too are coming behind me, and I have hastened to appear before you in order that you may be pleased, O my Lord!’
(Taha, 20 : 84)
To Prophet Mohammad Allah Said:
And soon your Lord shall bestow upon you (so much) that you will be well-pleased
(ad-Duha, 93 : 5)
Both the worlds want to please Allah but Allah wants to Please Mohammad
Moses could not bear a glimpse of Divine Light. Whereas, Prophet Mohammad beheld Allah Himself, his eyes neither inclined aside nor overstepped the limit.
(an-Najm, 53 : 17)
Beauty of Yusuf and Beauty of Mustafa
Allah blessed Yusuf with immense beauty. So much so the Quran relates to the story of Yusuf as one of the most beautiful ones. However, the beauty of Prophet Mohammad is mentioned at various instances in the Quran.
By the growing morning bright (when the sun gains height and spreads its radiance), Or By the morning bright (whose radiance has replaced the darkness of ignorance with the enlightenment of guidance,) And by the night when it covers up.
(ad-Duha, 93 : 1-2)
The “Growing morning bright” refers to the glow of his beautiful face. And the “by the night” refers to his beautiful dark hair.
By (Muhammad [pbuh]), the bright star when (he ascended during the Ascension Night in the twinkling of an eye and) descended.
(an-Najm, 53 : 1)
Imam Jaffar Sadiq said, “the bright star” means the Holy Prophet. So, the verse actually means “By Mohammad” (when he descended from the skies on the night of Miraj). He also said it means the inward of Prophet Mohammad. And in this verse, Allah swears by the Divine Light in the Inward of Prophet Mohammad. (Shan e Mustafa mein Qurani Kismein)
Beauty of Prophet Mohammad is hidden
Shah Wali Ullah says his father, Shah Abdur Rahim dreamt of seeing the Holy Prophet. So, he asked him: O Messenger of Allah! The women of Egypt cut their hands upon seeing Yusuf, some fell unconscious. What is the reason that this does not happen with you? The Prophet responded: Allah has hidden my beauty from people due to honour, or else their condition would be worse than what it was with Yusuf. (Husn Sarapa e Rasool)
The beauty of Yusuf and all other beautiful men even combined is nothing compared to that of Prophet Mohammad, since they are all created from his Noor. If Allah had not concealed his beauty from pagans and polythiests, they would become blind and no one would be able to look at him with their weak worldly eyes. (Husn Sarapa e Rasool)
Allah gave Yusuf a piece of His Beauty. Prophet Mohammad however, is given His complete Perfect Beauty. Aside from all his spiritual qualities and beneficence, his beauty was standards apart and a miracle in itself.
Hassan bin Sabit said, “O Messenger of Allah! My eye has never witnessed such beauty, and no woman has given birth to someone with such grandeur.” (Seerat e Mustafa)
Every blessing in the universe is due to our beloved Prophet. Whoever is blessed with something is because of him. Even every other prophet received their miracles owing to Prophet Mohammad. His character, his charisma, his deeds and personality are all in accordance with Allah’s Expression. Whatever bounties other prophets had, were sourced from him
Quran; The Greatest Miracle of our Prophet
Quran is a treasure for everyone for all times. Every verse of the Quran is a miracle in itself. Allah says:
The month of Ramadan (is the month) in which the Qur’an has been sent down as guidance for mankind containing clear signs which lead (to the straight road) and distinguishing (the truth from falsehood).
(al-Baqarah, 2 : 185)
This is the Book of Allah which means it is complete and perfect, and no word of it is doubtful. This Book was revealed to the Prophet and Allah Himself named it Quran.
All other books that Allah revealed to previous messengers, became obsolete on the arrival of the Quran. Now the only book that can be relied upon is the Quran, it is the complete code of life.
The Night of Miraj
This is a miraculous incident of our Prophet which is one of the fundamental blocks of faith for every Muslim. This incident holds great significance. All miracles of all prophets aside, this one miraculous incident is on another level.
“The Holy Prophet said: I ascended from Makkah on Buraq and reached Bait ul Muqdis, from there I flew to the skies and till the end towards the heavens. I reached the Divine World, experienced the Divine Presence unveiled. I met all the prophets. When I returned home, the hook of my door lock was still moving and my bed was still warm. This miracle is everlasting, because each passing moment, its truth and Divinity increase.”
(Falsafa e Miraj)
Perfect Faith
The evidence of Allah’s Love for His Beloved manifests even in Shahadah. A man’s faith is incomplete if he only believes in Allah’s Oneness, he has to have firm belief that Mohammad is in fact His last messenger and the seal of prophets. It is Allah who joined His Name with Prophet Mohammad’s, made it obligatory to obey Him and Mohammad, and made Mohammad’s pleasure His Own. Whosoever disobeys him, disobeys Allah. In fact, in order to believe in Allah, it is obligatory to believe in Mohammad as His last Prophet.
Before being announced Prophet, he asked his people if they would believe everything he tells. Everyone bore witness to him being truthful and honest. Then he announced his Prophethood and Allah’s Oneness. This shows that Tawhid is invitation and Prophet Mohammad is the inviter. If Tawhid is Guidance then Prophet Mohammad is the guide. If Allah is Zikr, Prophet Mohammad is Zakir. If Allah is said, Prophet Mohammad is the sayer. If Allah is written, Mohammad is the writer. The one who does not believe in the inviter does not accept the invitation. He who does not believe the guide, receives no guidance. How can one who does not recognise the Zakir seek the reality of Zikr? Allah Says:
Whoever obeys the Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him) obeys (but) Allah indeed, but he who turns away, then We have not sent you to watch over them.
(an-Nisa, 4 : 80)
Say: ‘Obey Allah and the Messenger (blessings and peace be upon him).’ But if they turn away, then Allah does not like the disbelievers.
(Al-i-Imran, 3 : 32)
Glory of the Holy Prophet
The Holy Prophet says: I am al-‘Aqib (the last in succession), al- `Aqib being the one after whom there will be no prophet.
(Mishkat al Masabih 5776)
I shall be pre-eminent amongst the descendants of Adam on the Day of Resurrection and I will be the first intercessor and the first whose intercession will be accepted (by Allah).
(Sahih Muslim 5940)
I am the first of the people to appear upon their being resurrected, and I am their spokesman whenever they gather, and I am the one that gives them glad tidings whenever they give up hope. And the Banner of Praise will be in my hand that day, and I am the most noble of the children of Adam with my Lord, and I am not boasting.
(Tirmidhi 3610)
I will have the most followers out of all messengers, on the day of resurrection.
(Sahih Muslim 385)
Conclusion
Prophet Mohammad is Allah’s Beloved for Whom He Created the entire creation. Praising him in words can never be enough. The only thing in man’s authority is that he remains faithful to the Prophet and seeks his purpose, which is recognition of the Mohammadan Reality.
