Summary:
The blog emphasizes the vast knowledge of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), highlighting how he possessed hidden knowledge granted by Allah. It discusses various hadiths that demonstrate his awareness of past, present, and future events, including the fate of individuals and nations. The Prophet’s profound insights are illustrated through numerous examples, such as foretelling the martyrdom of companions and describing events related to the Day of Judgment. These revelations not only affirm his status as the Seal of Prophethood but also underscore the impossibility of fully grasping his gnosis without following the path of Faqr.
The blog further details how the Prophet shared his knowledge generously with his companions, providing them with wisdom on various topics, from the natural world to the spiritual realm. He was described as never withholding valuable insights, exemplified by his explanations of how birds fly and his knowledge of individual destinies, including the names of those destined for Paradise or Hell. This nurturing of knowledge among his followers reflects his role as a teacher and guide, reinforcing the belief that his umma is the last and everlasting community in Islam.
Finally, the article touches on the Prophet’s foresight regarding technological advancements and significant future events, such as the return of Jesus and the characteristics of those who will fight against Dajjal. His predictions about transportation methods in the modern era, which seemed unimaginable at the time, further illustrate the depth of his knowledge. Overall, the blog presents the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) as a figure endowed with extraordinary awareness, whose teachings continue to inspire and guide Muslims through the ages.
The Holy Prophet’s Vast Knowledge
Abdul Rahman ibn Aiash narrates that the Holy Prophet (pbuh) said:
(On the night of Miraj) He (Allah) kept His hand on the middle of my shoulders and I felt its coldness deeply to the core of my heart. I came to know everything of the heavens and the Earths. (Mishkat: 725, Masnad Ahmad: 23597)
Therefore, the Holy Prophet knows everything. Describing events from previous nations and events of Judgement Day is proof of his vast knowledge.
Foolish people try to misguide others after gaining some worldly knowledge. They engage common people in the debate about whether the Holy Prophet has hidden knowledge. Actually they lack his gnosis because it is impossible to acquire it without adopting the path of Faqr. How can someone talk about a path if he has not experienced it? For example, someone has not travelled to Makkah nor seen it with his own eyes. He has only heard others or read about it. How can he provide more information than someone who has gone to Makkah several times?
This article contains hadiths for those who have doubts about the Holy Prophet’s hidden knowledge. There are many incidents in these hadiths that the Holy Prophet foretold.
Informing Seekers of his Gnosis through Hidden Knowledge
The Holy Prophet’s Companions travelled with him and listened to the rare gems of his eternal knowledge. Prophet Mohammad too would not be stingy at all in blessing the Seekers of knowledge and gnosis. He gave them so much knowledge that there is no example of it.
Abu Dharr al-Ghifari relates:
There was nothing the Holy Prophet did not give us knowledge of. He even described how birds fly in the air. (Masnad Ahmad 255. Al-Silsila 2488)
Ahmad ibn Mohammad Qastallani says about this hadith:
Undoubtedly, Allah informed him about much more and revealed knowledge of the beginning and end. (Al-Muwahib al-ladunniyya 3:860)
The Holy Prophet is the Seal of Prophethood and no prophet will come after him. His prophethood is eternal and his umma is the last one.
Allama Iqbal says:
او رُسل را ختم ما اقوام را
Explanation: The Holy Prophet’s umma will remain forever till doomsday. His umma is uncountable in terms of people. Allah gave him such hidden knowledge that the Holy Prophet knows everyone in his umma well. The following hadith testifies to this.
Knowledge of People in the Future
Hudhayfah ibn Usayd relates that the Holy Prophet said “Last night my entire umma was presented before me outside my room” then someone asked “O Messenger of Allah! Those who have been born were presented to you, but how are those who have not yet been created presented to you?” He said “Their physical forms were presented to me. I even know every one of them more than you know your friend. (Al-Mu’jam al-Kabir 3:181)
Abd Allah ibn Amr ibn al-As narrated:
The Holy Prophet came to us with two books in his hand. He said ‘Do you know what these two books are?’ We said: ‘No, O Messenger of Allah! Unless you inform us.’ He said about the one in his right hand: ‘This book is from the Lord of the worlds, in it are the names of the people of Paradise, and the name of their fathers and their tribes. Then there is a summary at the end of them, there being no addition to them nor deduction from them forever.’ Then he said about the one in his left: ‘This book is from the Lord of the worlds, in it are the names of the people of Fire, and the name of their fathers and their tribes. Then there is a summary at the end of them, there being no addition to them nor deduction from them forever.’ (Tirmidhi 2141)
Friend of the Cave
The Holy Prophet declared his best friend Abu Bakr a man of paradise.
Abdullah ibn Masud relates:
We were present in the Holy Prophet’s company and he said “A man from among the people of paradise will come here”. Then Abu Bakr came in, greeted everyone and sat down. (Al-Mustadrak 4443)
This hadith provides testimony on the Prophet’s hidden knowledge regarding both this world and hereafter. His telling the Companions that “a man will come here” indicates he knew Abu Bakr would arrive soon. And in terms of hereafter, the proof of his hidden knowledge is the announcement of Abu Bakr’s heavenly status.
Good News of Heaven to Ten Companions
The Holy Prophet announced in a gathering that ten Companions, including the Rashidun Caliphs, would go to heaven. Abdur-Rahman bin ‘Awf relates that the Messenger of Allah said:
“Abu Bakr is in Paradise, Umar is in Paradise, Uthman is in Paradise, Ali is in Paradise, Talhah ibn Ubaydullah is in Paradise, Az-Zubayr ibn al-Awam is in Paradise, Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf is in Paradise, Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas is in Paradise, Sa’id bin Zayd is in Paradise, and Abu Ubaidah ibn al-Jarrah is in Paradise.” (Tirmidhi 3747)
Apart from this, Holy Prophet gave good news of Jannah to some other companions on several occasions.
Knowledge of Martyrdoms
Anas ibn Malik relates:
The Prophet (pbuh) ascended the mountain of Uhud and he was accompanied by Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman. The mountain shook beneath them. The Prophet said, “O Uhud! Be firm”. I think (narrated Anas bin Malik) he hit it with his foot and said “for on you there is none but a Prophet, a Siddiq and two martyrs”. (Bukhari 3686, Mishkat 6083)
The Holy Prophet knew that Umar and Uthman would be martyred. Therefore, he gave the news of their martyrdom before it happened. History confirms that these two personalities achieved the status of martyrdom.
Knowledge of Martyrdom of Army Commanders in the Battle of Mu’tah
The battlefield of Battle of Mu’tah was hot. Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) was in Medina informing his Companions about events of the battle happening in Syria. He told everyone about the martyrdom of three revered Companions. It was as if he could see them. The tradition goes:
Anas ibn Malik relates that the Holy Prophet informed everyone about the martyrdom of Zayd ibn Harithah, Jafar ibn Abi Talib and Abdullah ibn Rawaha before receiving the news. The Holy Prophet said “Zayd ibn Harithah had the flag and was martyred. Then Jafar ibn Abi Talib took it and was also martyred. After him, Abdullah ibn Rawaha took it and was martyred too.” His eyes teared up. And then one of the swords of Allah, Khalid ibn Walid took it. Allah gave victory to the Muslims. (Bukhari 1246)
Fourteen Centuries ago there was no satellite system, internet, E-mail, wireless devices or Smartphone for communication. The Holy Prophet’s reporting the conditions of a battlefield sitting hundreds of kilometers away from it, is undoubtedly a strong proof of his hidden knowledge.
Knowledge of States of Graves
Ibn Abbas relates that once the Holy Prophet passed by two graves and said “They are facing punishment, but not for a major sin. One of them used to go about spreading malicious gossip and the other one of them used not to save himself from (being soiled with) urine.” Ibn Abbas says that the Prophet then took a green palm tree leaf and split it into two pieces and placed one piece on each grave. And then said “Surely their punishment will be mitigated until these leaves are not dried.” (Bukhari 6055)
This hadith indicates that the Holy Prophet was aware of the hidden in the following ways:
While passing near the two graves, The Holy Prophet informed about their internal conditions. The internal state of a grave is related to the matters of unseen. This shows that the Holy Prophet had hidden knowledge.
The reasons for punishment the Holy Prophet described were in the past and obviously hidden knowledge. Hence the Holy Prophet also had hidden knowledge of the past.
Punishment of the grave is in present which the Holy Prophet described to the Companions. So he also had hidden knowledge of the present.
Mitigation of the punishment till the leaves dry is hidden knowledge of the future. Therefore the Holy Prophet also had hidden knowledge of the future.
Suraqa ibn Malik and the Bangles of Khosrow II
During the migration to Medina, Suraqa ibn Malik was pursuing the Holy Prophet. He forgave Suraqa ibn Malik and gave him certificates of peace after he repented. When he was leaving, the Holy Prophet gave him good news “Suraqa you will wear Khosrow’s bangles”. At that time, Khosrow was the king of Iran which was a big superpower. Imam Halabi relates this good news:
When Suraqa was about to leave, the Holy Prophet said: “O Suraqa! How glorious you would be when you wear Khosrow’s bangles.”
(Sirat al-Halbiya 2:45)
When Umar conquered Iran during his caliphate, Khosrow’s bangles were in the spoils of war. Umar ordered to give Suraqa the bangles. Suraqa then said:
All praise be to the One who took these bangles from Khosrow ibn Hormizd who called himself God and gave them to Suraqa ibn Malik.
(Sirat al-Halbiya 2:45)
Al-Suhayli says about this event:
The Holy Prophet gave this news to Suraqa when he accepted Islam. He said “Allah Almighty will soon bestow upon him the victory of Iran and give him the spoils of war from Khosrow’s kingdom.” Suraqa thought this impossible and asked “Will anyone ever defeat Khosrow the king of kings?”
(Al-Rawd Al-Unuf 2:6)
Knowledge of Al-Abbas’s Buried Treasure
During the Battle Badr, the Holy Prophet’s uncle Al-Abbas ibn Abdul Muttalib was one of the prisoners. It was decided to take ransom from prisoners of war. When Al-Abbas was asked to pay money, he gave an excuse that he was a poor man and have no money to pay. The Holy Prophet said:
Where is the wealth that you and your wife Lubaba Umm al-Fadl buried? You said to her that if you die in this journey then this wealth is the property of my two sons, Fadl and Quthum’.
When Al-Abbas heard this he was shocked and openly said:
I swear to Allah! I acknowledge that you are His prophet. By God no one other than me and Al-Fadl knew this. (Hujjatullah Alal Alamin: 482)
Knowledge of Technology in the Future
Abd Allah ibn Amr ibn al-As relates that the Holy Prophet said:
In the last era of my umma, people will travel on other vehicles (i.e. motor vehicles and airplanes) instead of flesh and bone animals. (Mustadrak Al-Hakim)
The Holy Prophet said this when there was no transport other than animals and had no ideas of such transport.
Recognition of Those Who Fight Against Dajjal
The Holy Prophet informed about those who will fight against [Dajjal] in the future:
I recognize their (those who will fight [Dajjal]) names, their forefathers’ names and the color of their rides. (Tirmidhi 2:57, Musnad Ahmad 2:537,538)
Mulla Ali Qari says while explaining this hadith:
This hadith proves that the Holy Prophet’s knowledge encompasses all events in the universe. (Sahih Muslim 2:392)
Knowledge of Prophet Isa’ Return and Signs of the Day of Judgement
The Holy Prophet said about Prophet Isa’ return:
Prophet Isa will be sent on Earth, he will marry, he will have kids and will live for forty five years. Then he will die and be buried next to me. (Mishkat 5508)
In this hadith, the Holy Prophet has informed about five future events that are going to happen near Judgment Day:
1. Descent of Prophet Isa on Earth.
2. Marriage of Prophet Isa.
3. Jesus having children.
4. The entire period of Prophet Isa’ stay i.e. 45 years.
5. Prophet Isa’ burial place.
Apart from this, the Holy Prophet has told all signs of Judgement Day through hadiths. Which are undoubtedly proof of his hidden knowledge and its extent.
The Holy Prophet says:
Judgement Day will not take place until time is constricted. A year is like a month and a month is like a week and a week is like a day and a day is like a moment and a moment is like a flare of fire. (Tirmidhi 2:57)
