The Grandeur of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh)
The grandeur of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) is exalted over every other creation. Allah Almighty sent him as mercy for humanity. He is a medium for mankind to reaching the Divine Essence. The sacred being of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) is the lifeblood of this universe. All the previous prophets came as messengers of Allah, whereas Prophet Mohammad came as the beloved of Allah Almighty. Allah blessed him with the best character and attributes that one can imagine.
The ranks and marvels that Allah blessed the previous prophets individually, all those are collectively present in Prophet Mohammad. Not only that all those attributes and values are present in Prophet Mohammad but Allah blessed him with these many fold. His being is sheer mercy for the whole universe and everything within it.
Allah says in Quran:
And, (O Esteemed Messenger,) We have not sent you but as a mercy for all the worlds. (21: 107)
Allah Almighty blessed Prophet Mohammad with numerous attributes and unique qualities. Below, we briefly discuss some of them.
Prophet Mohammad – Allah’s First Creation
Allah Almighty first of all created the light (Nur) of Prophet Mohammad. Jabir ibn Abdullah says:
I asked, O Messenger of Allah! May my parents sacrifice upon you, kindly enlighten me about what did Allah create first of all? The Holy Prophet replied, ‘O Jabir! Indeed, Allah created the light (Nur) of your Prophet from His own light before anything else existed. There was no existence of the Guarded Tablet, The Pen, Paradise and Hell, angels, sky, earth, sun, moon, jinn or the human beings.
When Allah intended to create the creation, he divided Mohammadan light into four parts. With one part, Allah created The Pen, with second The Guarded Tablet and the Throne with the third part.
Allah divided the fourth part further into four parts. With the first part, Allah created the angels who hold the Throne, with second part He created the Chair and the other angels with the third part. Allah then further split the fourth part into another four parts. The first part created the skies, the second part created earth and the third part created the heaven and hell. The fourth part was again divided into four parts; first created angels, second created the sun, third created the moon and the fourth part created the starts. (Excerpt from Al-Mussanif by Imam Abdul Razzaq)
Abu Huraira narrated that the Holy Prophet said: ‘I am the first to be created amongst the prophets but the last to manifest as Prophet.’ (Delmi)
Ali ibn Abi Talib reported Holy Prophet saying:
‘I was present in the court of Allah in the form of light (Nur), fourteen thousand years before Allah created Adam.’
Prophet Mohammad is first amongst all Prophets
This is the grandeur of Prophet Mohammad that as he is the first amongst the creation, similarly, he the foremost amongst the prophets.
Once the Companions asked: “O Messenger of Allah! When did Allah grant you prophethood?” The Holy Prophet replied: “I was prophet even when Adam was between soul and body” i.e. he had not been created (Tirmadhi). Arbad bin Sariyya al-Salmi narrates that Prophet Mohammad said, “Allah had appointed me the last Messenger even when Adam did not exist. My prophethood is the prayer of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), the glad tidings of Prophet Isa (Jesus). In addition, I am the dream of my mother that she saw before my birth. At the time of my birth she saw that a light emerged from her that lit up the palaces in Syria.” (Khasais e Mustafa)
Oath of all Prophets to believe in Prophet Mohammad
Allah took an oath from the souls of all prophets in the realm of souls to accept and believe in the prophethood of Prophet Mohammad and support him. Allah says in Quran:
And, (O Beloved, recall) when Allah took a firm covenant from the Prophets: ‘When I give you the Book and Wisdom, and then there comes to you the Messenger (who is exalted in glory above all and) who shall validate the Books you will have with you, you shall then, most certainly, believe in him and most surely help him.’ Allah said: ‘Do you affirm, and on these (terms) hold fast to My heavy covenant?’ All submitted: ‘We affirm.’ Allah said: ‘Bear witness then, and I am also with you amongst the witnesses.’ (3: 81)
This verse proves that the souls of all the prophet, first affirmed to believe in the prophethood of Prophet Mohammad. As a reward, Allah blessed them with prophethood.
Universal Prophethood and Mohammadan Sharia
Before Prophet Mohammad, all the prophets used to represent a particular nation or an area. Whereas Allah sent Prophet Mohammad as mercy for whole mankind. Allah says in Quran:
And, (O Esteemed Prophet,) We have not sent you but as a Bearer of the glad tidings and as a Warner to the entire mankind, but most people do not know. (34: 28)
Prior Holy Books and Prophet Mohammad
All the prior Holy books mentioned Prophet Mohammad as the last Messenger and gave glad tidings about him.
Arbad bin Sariyya al-Salmi relates that Prophet Muhammad once said: “I am the prayer of my (great grand) father, Prophet Ibrahim and the glad tidings of Jesus.”
Shaikh Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti narrates that Ibn Abbas said that before the arrival of Prophet Mohammad, when the Jews of the tribes of bani Qaridha and bani Nadheer used to pray for win over the Arabs, they used to say: “O our Lord! We ask your help through the medium of the illiterate Prophet (referring to the fact that Prophet Mohammad did not acquire any formal education) that You grant us win over them. Thus Allah used to grant them success.” (Khasais e Mustafa)
The Seal of Prophethood
The series of Prophethood that began from Prophet Adam, ended at Prophet Mohammad. There will be no prophet after him till the day of Judgement. Every age is now the age of Prophet Mohammad. Through the sharia of Prophet Mohammad, Allah completed Islam. Allah says in Quran:
Today I have perfected your Din (Religion) for you, and have completed My Blessing upon you, and have chosen for you Islam (as) Din (a complete code of life). (5:3)
Superiority of Prophet Mohammad over other Prophets
Jabir ibn Abdullah reported that the Holy Prophet said:
Allah has blessed me with 5 such things that were not given anyone else before me.
- I have an aura of influence that people can feel from a distance of a month’s travel
- Allah has made the whole earth mosque for me. Therefore, my follower can pray anywhere on earth they like
- War booty has been made halal (permissible) for me. Whereas it was not permissible before me
- Allah has granted me the right of intercession
- Allah has made me Prophet for whole mankind. Whereas before me, the prophets were for a particular nation or an area
The grandeur of Prophet Mohammad is above whole of creation. This is because Allah has made his remembrance known throughout the world. Allah says in Quran:
And We exalted for you your remembrance (by annexing it to Ours everywhere in the world and in the Hereafter). (94: 4)
Safeguarding of Quran
From Prophet Adam to Prophet Mohammad, Allah sent His revelations to guide mankind. Prophet Dawud (David) was given Zubur, Moses Torah and Jesus had Bible. However, Allah did not pledge to safeguard any of these holy books. Therefore, none of these books are present in their original form today. The scholars throughout history made changes to these commandments to suit their needs and interests. Allah blessed Prophet Mohammad with Holy Quran. The uniqueness of Quran is that Allah Himself promised to safeguard it. That is why after more than fourteen hundred years, it is still present in its original form as it was revealed upon the Holy Prophet. It will remain in its original form until the day of Judgement and will continue to guide mankind toward the righteous path. Allah says in Quran:
Assuredly, We alone have revealed this Glorious Admonition (the Qur’an), and surely We alone will guard it. (15: 9)
The prophethood ended on Prophet Mohammad. There will be no more prophets nor will there be any new Divine book. Therefore, Quran will remain the source of guidance, hence Allah pledged to safeguard it.
Mohammadan Sharia
Allah not only blessed Prophet David, Moses and Jesus with Holy books but they also introduced their sharias too. The difference between prophet and messenger is that the messenger also introduces his sharia. Whereas the Prophet follows the sharia of the previous messenger. In history, when people altered the sharia of a messenger so much that it lost its value, then Allah used to send a new messenger who brought his sharia and the previous sharia used to become obsolete. A number of prophets used to come in between messengers who used to guide mankind towards the righteous path according to the governing sharia of the time. The sharias of Prophet David, Moses and Jesus were not perfect. The sharia of Prophet Mohammad is complete and perfect from every perspective.
Through Mohammadan sharia, Allah provided mankind a complete code of life. Not just life but even it sets out framework for the protocols after death. In addition, Prophet Mohammad practically proved every single act of sharia during his life. Whether it’s an occasion of celebration or sobbing, the rights of people or affairs of daily life, the Holy Prophet has provided an answer to every question through his life. There is nothing outside the sharia. Whether a scholar or a Fakir or Saint, whoever achieved any rank or status, that’s all through following sharia.
The present and 31st Shaikh of Sarwari Qadri order Sultan ul Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib ur Rehman says:
On the path of Sufism (Faqr) no one can gain any success or rank without completely following sharia.
Leader of Mankind
Allah has blessed Prophet Mohammad with the honour that he is the leader of all mankind in this world as well as he will be the leader of whole creation on the day of Judgement. Abu Hurairah relates that the Holy Prophet said:
“I will be the leader of whole mankind on the day of Judgement.” (Muslim)
It is narrated in Hadith that on the day of Judgement, Prophet Mohammad will bear the flag of praising Allah Almighty. Anas ibn Malik reported the Holy Prophet said:
“I will lead the praise and remembrance of Allah Almighty on the day of Judgement. I don’t say this with pride.” (Al-Mustadrak)
Abdullah ibn Abbas and Abu Sa’id al-Khudri also reported similar Hadiths.
Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri reported that the Holy Prophet said:
“I will lead the whole mankind on the day of Judgement, I don’t say this with pride. I will bear the flag of remembrance and praise of Allah Almighty, and I don’t say this with pride. All the prophets will be under my flag and I don’t say this with pride.”

Explanation: I have no fear of the difficulties of the day of Judgement. This is because I am the follower of Prophet Mohammad and will be under his umbrella on that day.
Leader of all Prophets and Messengers
On the day of Judgement, Prophet Mohammad will lead all the prophets and messengers. He will have the honour to intercede in the court of Allah for mankind. Ubayy ibn Ka’b reported the Holy Prophet saying:
“I will be the leader of all the prophets on the day of Judgement.” (Al-Tirmidhi)
It is the honour of Prophet Mohammad that he will give glad tidings to the people on the day of Judgement. Prophet Mohammad said:“On the day of Judgement, when people will feel hopeless and helpless, I will give them glad tidings.” (Al-Tirmidhi)
Prophet Mohammad – First to cross As-Sirat
It is an honour for Prophet Mohammad that he will cross As-Sirāt with his ummah before any other prophet or nation. Abu Hurairah reported Holy Prophet saying:
“As-Sirāt is above hell. I will cross it with my umma before any other messenger.” (Sahih al-Bukhari)
It is the grandeur of Prophet Mohammad that Allah granted him the honour to intercede on the day of Judgement. No other prophet has this privilege. Abdullah ibn Abbas reported the Holy Prophet saying:
“On the day of Judgement, I will be the first one to intercede. Allah will accept my intercession first of all. I don’t say this as pride.” (Al-Tirmadhi)
Abu Hurairah reported the Holy Prophet said:
“On the day of Judgement, I will be the leader of whole mankind. My grave will open first on that day. I will be the first one to intercede in the court of Allah and my intercession will be accepted first. (Muslim, Abu Dawood)
Prophet Mohammad holds the keys to Paradise
Allah granted complete authority of all the treasures in the world to His beloved – Prophet Mohammad. Similarly, Allah will hand over the keys to the Paradise to him on the day of Judgement. Anas ibn Malik reported that Holy Prophet said:
“On the day of Judgement, the keys to Paradise will be in my hand and I don’t say this with pride.”
Al-Kawthar
Allah has honoured Prophet Mohammad with a special stream in Paradise called Al-Kawthar. This falls in a pond called Hoz-e-Kowthar. Allah says in Quran:
Indeed, We have bestowed on you an infinite abundance (every kind of superiority, bliss and bounty). (108: 1)
Aisha bint Abi Bakr says:
Al-Kawthar is a special stream in Paradise that Allah will grant to Prophet Mohammad. It will have pearls on both its banks. The goblets of this stream (that are used to drink from it) are infinite like the stars (in the sky). (Sahih al-Bukhari)
The Holy Quran will be recited in Paradise. Shaikh Jalal al-Din al-Suyuti and Imam Mohammad Yousaf Salihi said: Only Quran (amongst other Holy books) will be recited in Paradise. (Khasais e Mustafa)
Arabic – The Language in Paradise
Abu Hurairah reported that Holy Prophet said:
“I am Arab. Quran is in Arabic and the language of communication in Paradise will be Arabic.” (Tibrani)
Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) is the seal of prophethood. There will be no prophet or messenger after him. Some of the miracles of Holy Prophet include the sectioning of the moon in two parts, salutation of stones and trees and their affirmation of his prophethood and moving of tree trunk. The Holy Prophet saw Angel Gabriel in his real form. Allah sends salutations upon him. He is the most beloved to Allah amongst whole of creation. Instead, everything in the universe owes its existence to Holy Prophet. May Allah grant us His vision and closeness of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh). Ameen
