Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen
Perfect Fakir and the Universal Divine Man
Allah created everything in the universe for a purpose. The earth, sun, sky, moon, stars, animals etc. He entrusted the man with the responsibility to bear the Trust of Faqr (Divine Trust). As Allah says in Quran:
Indeed, We offered the trust (of Faqr) to the heavens and the earth and the mountains, but they declined to bear this (burden) and felt scared of it, but man took it on. Verily, he is given to wrongdoing (against his self), unwise and extremely ignorant (of the consequence of lapse in paying back the trust). (33:72)
According to perfect Fakirs, this Trust actually refers to the true heritage of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) which is Ism-e-Allah Zaat and the Trust of Faqr. The Holy Prophet said:
“When Faqr is accomplished that is Allah.”
Faqr is the true legacy of the Holy Prophet, as he said:
“Faqr is my pride and Faqr is from me and Faqr is the reason of my superiority over all the Prophets and Messengers.”
Sultan Bahoo says about Faqr:
“Faqr is exactly the Divine Essence.” (Ain-ul-Faqr)
Faqr is the manifestation of Divine Essence and Divine attributes. Therefore, Divine Trust is in fact Faqr.
Bearer of Divine Trust - the Universal Divine Man
The Holy Prophet is the owner of Faqr and has its complete authority and it is his sacred assembly from where all the decisions relating to Faqr are issued. It is not possible that after the passing of the Holy Prophet there would be no one to carry the Divine Trust and be the embodiment of Divine attributes. This is because the purpose of the creation of this universe is the expression of Divine Essence and Divine attributes – through His chosen men. The Divine Trust is transferred from the Holy Prophet to those Fakirs who cross the path of Faqr and reach the station of annihilation and union with Divine Essence.
When the seeker reaches the stations of fana filla, baqa billa (annihilation in Allah and becoming immortal with Him), he acquaints with all the Divine attributes. Thus, becoming the Universal Divine Man. The Universal Divine Man is the one who bears Divine Trust. The Holy Prophet (pbuh) is the most perfect Universal Divine Man and a complete embodiment of Divine Essence.
Sultan-ul-Arifeen Sultan Bahoo says:
The Holy Prophet is the Universal Divine Man. The perfect Fakirs attain this rank through the medium of Prophet Mohammad. (Ain-ul-Faqr)
The Universal Divine Man is the bearer of Divine Trust and the representative of Allah on earth. Sultan Bahoo says:
Jamiat, which is a Divine blessing, is endowed to the Universal Divine Man. They are the prophets, messengers and perfect Fakirs. (Fazl-ul-Liqa)
Allah says in Quran:
Ask of Him someone who has attained to His awareness. (The unaware do not have any gnosis of Him.) (25:59)
The world is never void of Sahib-e-Musamma murshid
In every age, there is a person (Universal Divine Man) who bears Divine Trust or the Trust of Faqr. The Holy Prophet is the owner of the treasure of Faqr. Only through him this treasure of Faqr transfers. Without his permission and blessing the Divine Trust does not transfer to anyone. From the Holy Prophet this blessing was granted to the highly glorious queen of paradise Fatimah-tuz-Zahra. She is the first Sultan of Faqr. Then, this treasure of Faqr was transferred to Ali ibn Abi Talib from whom it transferred to Hussain and Hassan ibn Ali and further onto to Mohammadan umma.
Then it reached Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani. From there, it got transferred to Sultan Bahoo. Now, whomever the Trust of Faqr is transferred to, the Holy Prophet sends that person to Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani for spiritual training. Then, that individual has to come to the court of Sultan Bahoo. Until the day of Judgement, with the permission of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh), the Trust of Faqr will continue to be transferred from the court of Sultan Bahoo.
Man of Divine Essence (Sahib-e-Musamma Murshid) is the Fakir who annihilates in Allah and attains union with Divine Essence. He is the Universal Divine Man and adorns the throne of Divine guidance and persuasion as the perfect spiritual guide. When a seeker finds such a spiritual guide, attaining gnosis and vision of Divine Essence is not difficult. Such Murshid grants the invocation and contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat to his disciples on the very first day. When the seeker finds such Murshid, they should accept his company wholeheartedly and completely follow his instructions. Such a Murshid is usually not very famous and remains anonymous. Allah guides His sincere seekers towards him.
Universal Divine Man in the present age
The Universal Divine Man is in fact the Man of Divine Essence, perfect Fakir, the bearer of Divine Trust and deputy of Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) in his age. The Sufis have mandated it upon Divine seekers to search for such a Fakir and adopt his company for spiritual enlightenment.
The person whom the Divine Trust is transferred to is chosen from pre-existence. Holy Prophet himself takes his spiritual allegiance and then entrusts him to Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani who trains him esoterically and then guides him to a living Shaikh (Murshid). The Murshid passes him through various esoteric and exoteric trials. Like, the raw gold goes through refining process in a furnace eventually producing pure gold. Similarly, a sincere seeker successfully passes all the tests and through Divine favour and his ardent Divine love finally qualifies to be transferred the Divine Trust. Due to his ardent love with the Murshid, he progresses from a lover to beloved. He becomes the confidant of his Murshid. The transfer of Divine Trust is a secret between his Murshid and him.
The Universal Divine Man of present age is Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman. He is the present Imam of Sarwari Qadri order after Sultan-ul-Faqr VI Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali (ra). It is the Sufi order of Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani that Sultan Bahoo re-organised as Sarwari Qadri order.
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen as a Divine seeker
Success in Faqr is only possible through Divine love. In fact, Faqr is the Divine love. The true seekers of Allah find peace and satisfaction in nothing but Divine love. This is because Allah has exclusively created them for loving His Existence.
Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman is the best living example of Divine love. He stepped into the arena of Divine love by the grace of Allah. Owing to his hard efforts, sincere intentions and Divine favour, he passed each and every trial of Divine love successfully. Due to his intense passion, he won all the challenges and crossed every obstacle in his way of Divine love.
In fact, Divine love inculcated the ability of patience, perseverance and submission to Allah’s will in him. Therefore, helping him to pass through all the trials. Also granted him the strength and courage to meet all the challenges in the way of Faqr. The intensity of Divine love burns all the desires other than Allah. Hence, the lover easily sacrifices all his wishes, comforts, pleasures, wealth and every possession just to please his Beloved.
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen's love for his Murshid
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s Divine love for his spiritual guide Sultan-ul-Faqr VI was so intense that he almost forgot his own existence. In other words, all his friendships, relations and worldly matters lost their significance. Now his main concern and priority was only the comfort and happiness of his spiritual guide. For that he was ready to sacrifice his entire wealth. In short, merely one smile or a glance of love from his spiritual guide meant everything to him. His Murshid Sultan-ul-Faqr VI Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali was well aware of his love.
Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali (ra)
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen became a reflection of his Murshid
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen reached the holy court of Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali on 12th April, 1998 (Dhul al-Hijjah 14th, 1418 H). Thereafter, his slavery became the sole purpose of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s life. Thus, he devoted each moment of his life to serve his spiritual guide. Due to the intense love for his spiritual guide, Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman annihilated in him completely. Rather, he became his spiritual guide’s complete essence and reflection.
From 1998 to 2001, Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali made him pass through various inward and outward trials. By the grace of Allah and kindness of the spiritual guide, he met each and every trial successfully. When Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali had thoroughly tested his heir of the Divine Trust, he then intended to go for Hajj.
Day of Transference of Divine Trust
On Wednesday 28th February, 2001 Sultan-ul-Faqr VI Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali went for Hajj with 9 selected disciples and three females. Sultan-ul-Faqr VI along with his disciples performed Hajj on 9th March 2001. They departed for Madina on 17th March, 2001 after Isha prayer.
Finally, on 21st March, 2001, the day came for which Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali had been waiting for twenty years. At last, the Holy Prophet had approved the person he had selected and presented for transferring the Divine Trust.
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman recounts these moments as:
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s sentiments
My presence at the sacred tomb of Prophet Mohammad on that day is the most important event of my life. It felt as if the rain of Divine light and theophanies was showering upon me. My eyes were all in tears. We reached closer to the grill of the Holy Prophet’s tomb. Shortly, the wheel of the wheelchair of a man in front of us got stuck in the carpet. Therefore, the queue stopped moving ahead. Meanwhile, my beloved spiritual guide turned his face towards the tomb of the Holy Prophet. His sacred countenance was shining brighter than the moon. I looked at the tomb and then at his face turn by turn. Indeed both were mesmerising sights. Never have I ever viewed such an exquisite sight in my life. The beauty of that moment sent me into trance.
My eyes were still engrossed at the beauty of this moment full of Divine theophanies. Concurrently, the guard standing near the tomb called the guard standing on the other side of the queues. He pointed towards my Murshid and said ‘Ya Shaikh’. He wanted to tell the other guard that the queue had stopped because of this Shaikh. Allah be glorified! Even the guards called him ‘Shaikh’ (the perfect spiritual leader). When the guard advanced towards him, everyone around paused and looked at his Divine face in a state of trance. To me it felt like the time had come to a standstill.
When the guard came closer, I held his hand and directed his attention towards the man in the wheelchair. The guard then noticed that the queue had stopped due to him. Instantly he adjusted the wheel of the chair and the queue started to move again. Then we reached near the tomb and prayed there for some time.
Transference of Divine Trust
When we came out of the sacred tomb and then stood near Bab al-Jibrail (name of a door at Prophet’s mosque). There, I said to my Shaikh, “Hazoor (Your grace)! People have divided the Islamic world into various sects. The Muslims, especially the ‘educated ones’ have deviated from the essence of Islam. Additionally, the infidels have united against Islam. Please bestow your kind favour and grace. So, the soul of Islam may prosper in the world and the satanic hold ends.”
Sultan-ul-Faqr VI Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali looked into my eyes and said,
“I have found the confidant of my inward.”
He meant that he had achieved his aim. There and then, he sated my inward with Divinity. Also, he bestowed his ultimate kindness and Divine favour upon me in the form of Divine Trust. Besides that, he also granted me the strength to keep it a secret.
From that day onwards, his sacred face glowed with happiness and he regained health. It seemed as if all his diseases had disappeared. He said,
“The purpose for which we came to the court of Holy Prophet has been achieved. Hence, due to this great achievement, Allah has granted all the wishes of our companions. Even if they wished for world or hereafter.”
Later, I witnessed this fact myself. Allah fulfilled all the desires for which my fellow disciples prayed during that Hajj.
After coming back to Pakistan, Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali became indifferent towards all his other responsibilities. Probably because he had accomplished his mission now. He felt like Allah had relieved him of a huge responsibility. (Mujtaba Akhir Zamani/The Spiritual Guides of Sarwari Qadri Order)
Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali’s words for Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen
Sultan-ul-Faqr VI Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali once said to Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen:
“I am the title of Faqr and you will be its detail.”
This saying has proven to be true since Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen became the Imam of Sarwari Qadri order.
All the previous spiritual leaders of Sarwari Qadri order granted the invocation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat in four stages. The four stages are; (Allah اَللّٰہُ), (Lillah لِلّٰہ), (LaHoo لَہٗ) and (Hoo ھُو ). It was a tradition to grant Ism-e-Allah Zaat according to the spiritual elevation and level of the seeker. Very few and most sincere disciples could achieve the fourth, final and highest stage of invocation i.e. Hoo (ھُو).
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen grants his disciples the final stage of invocation i.e. Hoo on the very first day of pledging allegiance and through his spiritual attention enables their inwards to absorb Divine theophanies.
Method of training of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen
The Holy Prophet (pbuh) said:
“A spiritual guide among his disciples is just like a Prophet among his nation.”
It means that the perfect and accomplished spiritual guide trains his disciples in the same way as the Holy Prophet trained the sacred Companions.
In another Hadith the Holy Prophet said:
The last era of my umma shall receive guidance just like you are receiving it from me. (Muslim)
What was the method of guidance of Holy Prophet? Did he engage the sacred Companions in daily rounds of recitals? We can find its answer in the following verse of Quran:
It is He who has sent among the unlettered a Messenger from themselves reciting to them His verses. And (Messenger) purifies them (with his perfect spiritual sight) and teaches them the Book and wisdom (the inspired knowledge). (62:2)
This verse proves that the Holy Prophet first used to educate his sacred Companions about Quran. Then with his perfect spiritual sight, he purified their inwards. So that the sanctified souls could absorb the Divine light of Quran. Purification of the inciting self (nafs), automatically cleanses the soul and reflects the sight of Reality clearly upon its mirror. This Divine sight is so tranquilising that it makes the inward restless to want more.
In fact, this restlessness is basically the beginning of Divine love for Allah. Only the sacred company of beloveds of Allah ignites this spark of love.
Al-Ghawth al-Azam Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani said:
Now that the Holy Prophet is not physically present for you to follow. Therefore, follow the sacred men (i.e. perfect spiritual guides) who are his perfect followers and have always obeyed him steadfastly. Indeed, it is as if you followed the Holy Prophet and seeing them is like seeing the Holy Prophet. (Al-Fath ar-Rabbani, Section-14)
He further said:
The perfect Saint (spiritual guide) possesses the Sainthood of the Holy Prophet which is the spiritual part of his Prophethood. The Holy Prophet himself grants it to that Saint as a Trust. (Sirr al-Asrar, Section 5)
Whoever sits in the company of the perfect and accomplished Saints with sincerity and pure intentions, his soul gets enlightened. Not just that but the perfect Saint also blesses the physical and spiritual self of that seeker. In fact, the Holy Prophet himself passes his Divine light to the Saint, who then transfers it in seeker’s soul.
Perfect Spiritual Guide changes the inward
There are many such examples in front of us. For instance, when the spiritual sight of al-Ghawth al-Azam was set on the bandits, every member of that group sought repentance. Afterwards, they reached the exaltation of Sainthood. Also, Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal came to know the reality only when he reached the court of Bishr al-Hafi. Abu Hanifa opted for the company of Bahlool (Wahab Ibn Amr) only then he exalted from a scholar to Saint. In short, nobody leaves the company of the Saints empty handed. As said in a Hadith:
They are the people by virtue of whom their associates will not remain unfortunate. (Muslim)
In this materialistic age, people do not have the kind of time to perform hard mystic struggles. They cannot perform daily rounds of recitals to free themselves from sensual desires. The truth is that such exercises, if performed in excess, can make the self (nafs) of man more arrogant and stronger. Therefore, instead of purification of the soul, they build arrogance. Then what is the best way to get rid of such filth and sanctify the soul?
According to Sultan Bahoo the best and easiest way to sanctify the soul is the invocation and contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat.
Perfect Spiritual Guide grants Sultan-ul-Azkar
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman is the Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide. Among all, he is the first one to grant the king of invocations Hoo (ھُو). Additionally, he grants this greatest name of Allah to all the seekers on the first day of pledge of allegiance. He grants the invocation, contemplation and mashq (practice of inscribing Allah’s name on body) of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. It then becomes easy for the disciple or the seeker of Allah to reach the exaltation of Faqr.
Explanation: Those who are granted the invocation and contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat by Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen remain engrossed in Hoo (ھوُ). This is because they reach the Divine Essence. They purify their selves by doing mashq murqoom-e-wajudia (practice of inscribing Allah’s name on body) of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. Indeed, Sultan Najib takes the sincere Divine Lovers and seekers of Allah to His proximity.
Allah has blessed Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen with extremely exalted spiritual rank which is beyond one’s comprehension. Yet, he lives like a common man and trains his disciples such that humility becomes prominent in them. Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen says:
Humility is the most effective tool against Satan. (Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen)
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen blesses Divine seekers regardless of their background
Regardless of one’s background, Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen blesses all the sincere Divine seekers with the treasure of Faqr but one has to pledge allegiance to qualify for that.
عنایت تو دیکھو میرے کامل مرشد کی یارو
کہ جس نے مجھے پل بھر میں لاھوتی بنا دیا
Explanation: Indeed, it is the blessing of my beloved Murshid that he has elevated me to the realm of Divinity.
May Allah grant us the strength and perseverance to remain steadfast on the path of Faqr and enable us to make all kinds of sacrifice for our Murshid. (Ameen)
